Manus x Machina – Fashion in an Age of Technology is on display at the Metropolitan Museum. This fashion art exhibit explores the relationship between handmade craft processes and industrial means of clothing production. Visitors are shown more than 170 pieces , from ready-to-wear to haute couture, from 1900 to the present day. The exhibit includes a range of items: some clothes are made entirely by hand while others use 3-D printing methods.
The approach of the curator Andrew Bolton proposes convergence between handcraft and machine production, demonstrating just how they how these ways of producing clothing go hand in hand.
Among the designers whose signature pieces are included are names like Cristobal Balenciaga, Pierre Cardin, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, Christian Dior, John Galliano, Jean Paul Gaultier, Hubert de Givenchy, Marc Jacobs, Karl Lagerfeld, Helmut Lang, Alexander McQueen, Miuccia Prada, Yves Saint Laurent, Madeleine Vionnet and more.
The exhibition is open to the public until 14 August.
Located at 1000 5th Ave and 83rd St.
